This is a four-week program + a BOOSTER class that will be a comprehensive workshop on drawing techniques.  I hope to share many “tricks of the trade” and help you explore your journey in how to draw “what you see” ….

Part I

Week 1:

  1. Introduction on  how to draw using basic shapes.
  2. Tips on how to set up an interesting still life and composition. I  will draw several objects using shading to create the objects.
  3. Demonstration of styles of drawing using line, cross hatching, shading, and circular movement.
I will also share tips on drawing elements in a landscape:
  •  cloud ceiling  with perspective
  • types of trees
  • types of rocks, and
  • movement in water

Week 2:

  1. Drawing  elements in Architecture:  Stairs, Doorways, Tile Roof, brick and stonework.
  2. Drawing of a portrait.  This will be introduced with simple measurements. I will show you how to draw each component of the face;  eyes, nose and mouth and ears.

Part II

Week 3:

  1. The Tonal Palette
  2. using values  in sketching a village setting
    I will provide a photo where we will draw the entire scene from beginning to end using our palette of sketching pencils

Week 4:  For our final drawing class we will use a fine tip black sharpie marker (there are many brands, and tip sizes, please have several point sizes) to explore a variety in creating line size.

I will provide a landscape subject which we will work from together.

  • sketching set of pencils
  • eraser
  • ruler
  • fine line sharpie (or any permanent ink pen)
  • drawing paper
  • NOTE PAD

BOOSTER Drawing Class:  using both ink pens  and pencils! We will work on a street scene from Volpaia, Tuscany, capturing details of architectural elements, combining these mediums.
