Bella Italia, Italy through the eyes of an Artist by Pat Fiorello

Pat Fiorello has been teaching painting at Il Chiostro for several years.  This book contains over 80 of her paintings of Italy, including many from places which will be familiar to Il Chiostro alumni:  Lake Garda, Tuscany, Florence, Siena, and Venice.

Fiorello invites readers on an irresistible visual journey to share in her most vibrant memories of Italy—its grandeur and splendid views of sparkling blue lakes, breathtaking hilltops, quaint villages and sunlit gardens. Because of her reverence for exquisite light and color, the works of art emanating from Fiorello’s easel beckon viewers to open their eyes more fully, and to breathe in all the enchanting sights—near and far—that the world has to offer.

Where I’m from in NYC, September was “Back to School” month. This year will look a lot different for the kids. But if you’re itching to learn something new, I’m excited to introduce this zoom class for total beginners.

All sessions will be recorded for you to watch over if desired.

How to Paint in Watercolor
The Introduction to WATERCOLOR program will provide you with the basic foundation to get started in this fun and luminous medium.
You will learn:
  • about the different types of watercolor materials
  • how to use your brushes and mix the right amount of paint vs water
  • how to mix colors
  • techniques including wet on wet, wet on dry, glazing, dry brush and a series of specialty techniques for creating textures. I will demonstrate and you’ll have a chance to practice
  • we will do a “paint along” of a simple landscape scene so you will create a painting. I’ll break down the painting step by step so you understand how to approach a painting start to finish
  • sessions will be recorded so you can go back and watch again
The class size will be small so we can keep it interactive and you can ask questions. Pat has 25 years of painting experience and knowledge and been teaching total beginners for over 20 years, so if you are ready to get started she would love to be your guide.
Supplies: Binders Art Supply has helped me to set up a beginner watercolor supply kit that we will use for the class that will make it easy and very cost effective to get the supplies you will need. A link to order the kit and have it shipped to you will be provided once you register.( I recommend ordering no later than 8/14 to have it in time). I will include a video overview of materials prior to the class.
