Sculpting in Clay, for all levels
This workshop is 5 sessions, designed as an interactive class where students will sculpt along with Peter
~ Beginners Welcome ~

Peter will guide participants through the process of creating an 18″ female torso in clay. Students will learn a fundamental sculptural language utilizing Peter’s simple step-by-step method of arranging clay blocks according to the Position, Proportion, and Planes based on the model in pose. Lessons are derived from Peter’s best selling book “The Figure in Clay” and will focus on both representational and abstract expressions of the female torso.

Peter will demonstrate how to use tools to achieve lively surface textures, rich volumes and flowing forms. Hollowing and firing techniques, applying a patina and mounting finished sculptures for exhibition will be discussed.

Peter’s upbeat approach encourages students to find their own artistic style. “During the sculpting process we don’t make mistakes, we make adjustments”

[Peter] is the best instructor I’ve had. His influence still informs my work. Working with him opened my eyes to seeing the form as it moves through space.  ~ SP, student from workshop in Tuscany

I am amazed with how much I have learned and the beautiful sculpture I have created in such a short time.  Peter’s class was well planned, organized and details thoughtfully explained.   ~ CM, student online
