The Way of Story
Dates: 5/24/2014 - 5/31/2014
Location: Tuscan Renaissance Center
Instructor: Catherine Ann Jones
“I’ve never met a person who didn’t have at least one story waiting to be born.” – Catherine Ann Jones
Join award-winning writer Catherine Ann Jones for a writing experience in Tuscany, a voyage of self-discovery as well as learning the craft & soul of writing.
"My philosophy of being a teacher is simply to become a catalyst for others to discover themselves and free their own potential, to create the space where magic happens. So the intention is to free the story, fulfilling not my vision, but theirs."
The workshop – as the book – is for all forms of narrative writing, including memoir, novel, biography, plays, screenplays, narrative poetry or songs.
The Way of Story is a voyage of discovery. For those who know what story they wish to focus on, I suggest they gear each of the exercises to their chosen story. For those who have yet to find their story, simply by doing each exercise, they will discover their story – or their story will find them.
- Excursions in Tuscany: journaling both the outer & inner journey of discovery
- Eavesdropping Dialogue Exercise
- 2+1 Dialogue Exercise
- Emotional Monologue Exercise
- Soul Dialogues
- Personal Myth
"What matters is to summon the courage and the heart, and write - or teach - from within. Isn’t it time to honor your story that is waiting to be born? Now, all that is needed is to take the plunge, entering The Way of Story..."

The Food: for us at Il Chiostro, helping our guests to experience the traditional food in one of the earth`s richest, most sensual areas is our pleasure. Chianti, the part of Tuscany where we will spend our second week, is Italy`s famous wine and olive oil producing region. Here we want to expose you to the wonders of simple Italian cooking. We use seasonal, organic products, locally produced by small farms and family shops. Our chef searches for the best of Tuscany to serve you at our dinner table. Tuscan cuisine is a simple art that has been refined over the centuries to surprise our palates while the wine comforts our souls. Come explore what food can really be all about.
An excerpt from a recent article in the NY Times (February, 2013):
The diet that seems so valuable is our old friend the “Mediterranean” diet. It’s as straightforward as it is un-American: low in red meat, low in sugar and hyperprocessed carbs, low in junk. High in just about everything else — healthful fat (especially olive oil), vegetables, fruits, legumes and what the people who designed the diet determined to be beneficial, or at least less-harmful, animal products; in this case fish, eggs and low-fat dairy. This is real food, delicious food, mostly easy-to-make food. You can eat this way without guilt and be happy and healthy."
