Il Chiostro Art Exhibit

Every year Il Chiostro organizes an art exhibit for all alumni who have participated in one of our workshops.  It is a juried exhibit for painting, photography, sculpture, collage and mixed media.

In 2020 we are celebrating our 25th anniversary with a virtual exhibit of 40 paintings/mixed media and 40 photographs by artists who have taken our workshops since 1995.  These will be displayed online with most work for sale directly from the artist.

And then – of the images juried into this exhibit, a special committee of people associated with Il Chiostro over the past 25 years voted for their favorite images in each category.  Those people were venue owners, chefs, consultants, previous jurors, tour guides and Italian supporters.  We tallied their votes to determine these awards in each category:

  • Premio Oro (Gold Medal) – 50% discount towards any Il Chiostro workshop in the next 2 years:

“Burano Afternoon”, watercolor by Pam Wetzel

“Crepuscular Rays”, iPhone photo by EK Waller

  • Premio Argento (Silver Medal) – 25% discount towards any Il Chiostro workshop in the next 2 years:

“Off the Wall”, collage by Joyce Gabiou

“Banksy in Venice”, photograph by Jerry Ganis

  • Honorable mention – an Il Chiostro logo shirt:

“Tuscan Farmhouse”, mixed media by Cheri Ginsburg

“Movie Man”, photo by Sarah Strong

In 2017 the exhibit was presented at the gallery of the Italian-American Museum in New York. It was a great success and we wish to thank all of our artists who were in the show and also to everyone who submitted their work.  To see a virtual tour prepared expertly by our coordinator, Gilbert Rios, click on this link.  Some artwork is still available for purchase.  Contact the artist directly to make arrangements.
