Learn the joy of creating a colorful illustrated journal of your experiences in beautiful and romantic Tuscany.
Discover how sketching from life will help you discover and observe the world around you. Artists of all levels from beginning to advanced will be enriched from this workshop. With the ease and portability of sketching and watercolor painting, you will be able to record your memories without heavy equipment and messy supplies.
Durinda will provide personal attention and guide you through drawing on site and adding color to your sketches through daily demonstrations with a workbook full of ideas and tips to outdoor sketching. You will be able to take note of the things you encounter such as the sights, smells, sounds, and the weather. She will cover choosing a composition, drawing architecture, creating depth and perspective, working with different media in your drawings and watercolor painting techniques. Each person’s sketchbook will be unique. You will decide what interests you most whether it is the landscape, the architecture, close-ups of doorways and windows, flowers, or the people you see.
With your visual journal of your trip, you will be able to use your sketches and watercolors as the inspiration for larger paintings back at home. Durinda will show you how to combine photography with sketching to collect information for later works. Years from now be able to relive your experiences as they were happening. Activities: Our daily painting will be combined with other adventures such as:
- visiting medieval Siena to sketch, take photos, wander and shop
- tasting the wine that is growing all about us in a local Chianti winery
- exploring other small hilltowns (Radda, Volpaia, ...) to paint on location or just relax at a cafe
- hiking through the vineyards, olive groves and villages
We`ll use our restored monastery as a home base, returning each evening for a home-made Tuscan meal and good company. Stay with the group or go off on your own. Our purpose is to paint, explore and enjoy the beauty of Italy.

- Shared double room in restored monastery
- Daily traditional breakfast and dinner, including wine

- ½ day excursion to nearby hilltown (Monteriggioni, Radda, Volpaia…)
- Pick up from Florence train station at 3:30pm on arrival day
- Transfer to bus/train station in Siena on final day
