This workshop offers a special opportunity to experience and to photograph in extraordinary Venice, its people and its culture. We will be living in a refurbished convent just off the Campo Santo Stefano near the Accademia Bridgein the San Marco sector of Venice. During the week we will be taking several field trips and working together to optimize, edit, organize and critique our images. There will also be ample opportunity to wander off on your own to shoot and explore.
To help develop a project, each student will have individually scheduled sessions with the instructor. We will be using Adobe Bridge to edit, organize and view the work. There will be group instruction on Bridge and the Photoshop Camera Raw plug-in, so that we can monitor the way we are shooting and understand the potential of the images we are taking.
Given the opportunity we have for taking amazing pictures, a week is a short time. Digital photography is perfectly suited for the experience, because we don't have to worry about labs, and we have the instant gratification of seeing our images as soon as we download them. However, it can also be frustrating if participants do not have proper equipment or are not familiar with what they do have. Students for this workshop must have experience with digital photography and a minimum of a Level One Photoshop class. It is essential that each participant bring a digital camera that shoots RAW files, a digital camera card reader and a laptop (with Photoshop CS3 installed).
During the week we will also have the opportunity to visit the many special exhibits around Venice, together or independently.
About the Instructor: A resident of New York, Carol Dragon is committed to the documentary tradition and to visual storytelling. Her work has been widely exhibited, collected and published. She shoots and prints her work digitally and is available for assignments and long-term commissions. She has a BFA and an MAT from Rhode Island School of Design and is an Adobe Certified Training Provider.
