Photography in the Digital Age
Program Description: The hallmark of great travel photography is that it creates the emotional experience of being there. Our goal during this week is to capture a vital sense of place, and portray the unique qualities of the people we meet and the culture we experience. Would you like to see first hand how a professional travel photographer plans and shoots a magazine assignment today? What approaches work best for personal expression and the fine art world? During this week-long workshop in the verdant and atmospheric hills of Tuscany, you will learn techniques to make stunning travel photographs for personal, editorial and fine art use. Our emphasis will be on shooting and processing digitally. You will receive personal, hands-on instruction from a working photographer to help you refine your personal vision, maximize your photographic and digital skills, and energize and stimulate your image-making process.
Here in Tuscany you'll frame ethereal landscapes at dawn, medieval hilltop towns glowing in late afternoon light, and bustling markets and piazzas. You'll learn both general and specialized travel and digital photography techniques, including:
Presentations drawn from magazine assignments and exhibitions will provide a springboard for student assignments and critiques. Each day we will have a new opportunity to shoot in the hill towns and the spectacular landscapes of classic Tuscany. We will explore new photographic techniques and approaches in each session. Then we will have time to process our images, review and critique with the group. After a hearty breakfast, we set out for our new desination(s) and photograph for usually four to six hours or more a day. Then we return to download, edit, and review the day's images. Throughout the week, Howard will be making slideshow presentations and demonstrating techniques in the field. He'll be with you shooting and happy to answer any questions you might have. All
skill levels are welcome. You'll need to bring your own digital camera
and know how to operate it. For downloading, reviewing, and working with
images, you'll need a laptop and memory card reader. Activities: There will be several organized outings including:
