Painting in Plein Air
with Jack Broderick
May 24-31, 2008
Price: $1,695

Program Description:

Painting the Tuscan Landscape

This course is open to painters of all levels. The primary medium will be oil but students may use pastels or acrylic, if they prefer. Students will be exposed to a method, which will allow them to identify clearly those factors, which are critical to the successful completion of the painting. The Tuscan landscape with its natural allure, wonderful light and enduring beauty will provide the challenge and the inspiration for the daily adventure.

Each student will be given individual encouragement to take advantage of the time and the place to better their painting skills. Everyone will be encouraged to keep a sketchbook. At the end of each day, a group critique will be offered. Ultimately, we will not lose sight of the privilege it is to share the wonder of Tuscany with a group of fellow artists.

Getting There: Florence will be our meeting point on the first day of the workshop. We will arrange for a van to pick up the group at the train station at about 3:30 pm on Saturday afternoon. We recommend that you fly into either Florence or Rome (Milan is a bit too far away). Florence is closer but it doesn't have an intercontinental airport, so there are no direct flights from the US. You would have to change planes in a larger European city. From the Florence airport you will need to take a shuttle bus into the center (20 minutes).
There are more scheduled flights from the US to Rome, many of them direct. From Rome, you will need to take a train to Florence (about 2 1/2 hours).
Important!
In making your return flight arrangements, if you are flying home on Saturday after the workshop, try not to book a flight too early. From our location it will take 1 ½ hours to get to the Florence airport or 3 ½ hours to get to the Rome airport.
For suggestions about getting to Rome or Florence, accommodations or other logistics, please consult our Travel to Italy link. Renting a car from all the major rental agencies is possible if you prefer to be more independent during the week.
