with Anna Tomczak
May 17-24, 2008
Price: $1,695

Program Description:

Capture the lush landscape, the brilliance of the sunsets
and
the golden earthtones that is Tuscany

Take home treasures of personal creation

  • Interact with the colors and light of the land, the architecture and the gardens
  • Enhance and develop your photographic talents, surrounded by the silvery color of the olive groves,
  • Wander through the hillside vineyards and experience, through the lens of your camera, the wonder of this magical place

Olive Tree, Tuscany by Anna Tomczak

In this workshop you will work toward a personal vision to create artistic, meaningful and provocative imagery with digital files or traditional color print film. The workshop will include:

  • discussions and demonstrations to expand on the technical and aesthetic possibilities of photography
  • presentation of our work at the end of the week
  • excursions around the area
  • individual critiques with Anna

At the end of the week there will be the option to create Polacolor Image transfers and emulsion lifts from selected digital images or prints. All levels are welcome.

The classroom will serve as the studio for making image transfer prints on paper, cloth and other surfaces. Those who wish to make transfers will be asked to bring Polacolor 669 film (or pay an additional small fee for the film). Some art papers and other surfaces will be supplied or can be found in the area.

Excursions to the nearby cities of Siena and/or Florence to experience the vivid colors of the old cobblestone streets, the incredible antiquity of the buildings and the richness, culture and warmth of the Italian people. Imagine sitting at a cafe watching the world go by AND capturing it with your camera!

Getting There: Florence will be our meeting point on the first day of the workshop. We will arrange for a van to pick up the group at the train station at about 3:30 pm on Saturday afternoon. We recommend that you fly into either Florence or Rome (Milan is a bit too far away). Florence is closer but it doesn't have an intercontinental airport, so there are no direct flights from the US. You would have to change planes in a larger European city. From the Florence airport you will need to take a shuttle bus into the center (20 minutes).
There are more scheduled flights from the US to Rome, many of them direct. From Rome, you will need to take a train to Florence (about 2 1/2 hours).
Important!
In making your return flight arrangements, if you are flying home on Saturday after the workshop, try not to book a flight too early. From our location it will take 1 ½ hours to get to the Florence airport or 3 ½ hours to get to the Rome airport.
For suggestions about getting to Rome or Florence, accommodations or other logistics, please consult our Travel to Italy link. Renting a car from all the major rental agencies is possible if you prefer to be more independent during the week.
