Art and the Il Chiostro Experience
1995-2008

What:
Il Chiostro is organizing its fourth annual group exhibition in
all visual arts: paintings, drawings, collage, photography, sculpture,
and printmaking from our workshops 1995-2008.
Where:
Broome Street Gallery, Soho, New York City
The Broome Street Gallery is a prestigious gallery located
on the corner of Broome St. and West Broadway.
When:
March
3-15, 2009 Gala Reception Saturday March 7th
Who:
All Il Chiostro alumni who have participated in one of our visual
arts workshops are eligible to participate in this group show.

Subject
Requirement: This will be a juried exhibit. Any work done during
an Il Chiostro workshop in Italy or executed later on in a studio
from a sketch or photo taken during a workshop is eligible for submission.
All of our Italian locations will be represented in the show, so if you
have taken workshops in various locations, you may submit work from each
place
Theme:
The title
of this year's exhibit is Shades of Italy. We invite alumni to
interpret this broadly and creatively.
Fees
and Requirements:
- Submission
Fee -
$45 for up to 4 pieces.
- Acceptance
Fee - $50 per piece accepted for inclusion in the show
- If accepted, the
artist will set the sale prices of work
- No Commissions
- neither Il Chiostro nor the Broome Street Gallery will take
a commission for work sold at the exhibit.
- All showing artists
will be responsible for framing and shipping their work to and from
the gallery or to a buyer. Pre-paid shipping labels or postage will
be required for returning work to the artist.

In either case you
must:
- Fill out the submission
form and return it with your $45 submission fee
- Submit up to 4
images to be considered by the juror.
- Send JPEG images
of your artwork (72 dpi is sufficient) via email to info@ilchiostro.com
or on a CD to Il Chiostro.
- Label jpeg files in the following format:
first 3 letters of your last name-title
(example: If John
Sampson is submitting "Venice Canal" the image should be named:
SAM-Venice Canal.jpg).
File names should be no longer than 40 characters
- All entries submitted
must include the following information:
- Name of artist
- Title of piece
- Medium
- Dimensions of finished piece (framed and/or matted, as applicable)
- Deadline is January
5, 2009
The show will be
juried by an independent professional not affiliated with Il Chiostro.
If one or more of your pieces are accepted into the show, you will be
notified by the end of January.
If
Accepted into the Exhibit:
- Il Chiostro
will send details for framing and shipping your work to the gallery
along with an invoice for your acceptance fee. Your participation in
the show will not be confirmed until we receive your acceptance fee.
- This is a prominent
storefront gallery in a well trafficked, multi-gallery district. All
paintings will be offered for sale to the public unless you specify
otherwise.
- Each artist will
receive special event postcards to mail and distribute on their own.
- The exhibit will
be listed in the Gallery Guide. Additionally, an electronic invitation
will be sent to all Il Chiostro alumni which you can forward
to your own contacts.
- Il Chiostro
will organize general publicity for the event.
Framing
Requirements for Accepted Work:
All participants are responsible for processing and framing their own
images according to the guidelines below:
- Size limits -
each piece should not exceed 18" X 24" FRAMED
- IF you use a mat,
it should be a neutral color, i.e., white or off-white
- All framed paintings
should be SIMPLE and made of wood. Color can be either gold or a neutral
wood tone.
- All photographs
should be framed in simple black frames - metal or wood
- IF you use glass,
it must be plexi-glass
- IF you choose
to wrap your canvas over stretcher bars without a frame, no staples
should show
- All pieces must
have a wire in the back for hanging
